Lictors are the herald of the Tyranid swarm, usually scouting far ahead of the main swarm, whisking away enemy commanders and destroying supplies like ghosts, also using their feeder tendrils to reach into enemy minds and take information from them. By the time the full force of the swarm arrives, the enemy is without command and without supplies, Tyranids knowing every trap they lay for them.
Leaving them defenseless against the endless horror that is the Tyranid Race.

Not very useful as of 1.73.9, I would advise not wasting resources on upgrades and just place them at important points on the map you want to view, since they are cheap there is barely a waste in making them but they aren't useful in any proper Tyranid force.
